Absolutely. A private tour is particularly good if you want individual attention at your own pace.

Your guide will adapt the tuition to your experience, whether you’re learning the basics, trying to understand your camera more confidently or already an experienced photographer looking to refine your technique and explore Amsterdam creatively.

Yes. Modern iPhones are capable of producing excellent photographs, and your guide can help you get much more from the camera you already carry.

We can work on composition, exposure, low-light photography, reflections and creative techniques, and our guides carry an iPhone tripod mount when required.

An iPhone user is considered a photographing guest, as you’ll receive individual photographic guidance and tuition throughout the tour.

Yes — that’s one of the biggest advantages of booking privately.

Tell us what interests you and we’ll shape the route around you. That might include canals, architecture, street photography, reflections, city details, low-light photography or simply learning to use your camera more effectively.

There is no fixed route that every private guest has to follow.

Private tours offer much more flexibility over your starting time.

Depending on what you want to photograph, your tour can be arranged around sunrise, daytime, golden hour, sunset, blue hour or evening.

We’ll help you choose a starting time that works with both your plans and the kind of light you want to photograph.

We normally meet outside Ibis Amsterdam Centre, next to Amsterdam Central Station.

When your booking is confirmed, we’ll send you the full address and a Google Maps location.

For private tours, hotel meet up is also available on request, depending on the location of your accommodation. Let us know where you’re staying when you book and we’ll confirm what’s possible.

Bring the equipment you already enjoy using. DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, compact cameras and iPhones are all welcome.

Because the tour is private, your guide can adapt the experience around your particular camera, lenses and photographic goals rather than expecting everyone to use the same equipment.

It depends on the time of day you choose.

For daytime photography, a tripod is usually unnecessary. If your tour continues through blue hour and into darkness, however, we strongly recommend using one. It allows you to use slower shutter speeds and lower ISO settings, producing cleaner, sharper photographs with less noise and grain.

You’re welcome to bring your own tripod, or you can rent one from us for €15.

Amsterdam’s weather can be unpredictable, but prolonged torrential rain is relatively unusual. Rain often comes and goes, and wet streets and canals can actually create fantastic reflections and atmospheric photographs.

We therefore try not to cancel simply because rain is forecast. Your guide can adapt the route and timing to the conditions wherever possible.

If severe weather makes the tour genuinely impractical or unsafe, we’ll first try to rearrange your tour. If we have to cancel and cannot arrange a suitable alternative, you’ll receive a full refund.

Sometimes, yes — but we strongly recommend booking in advance.

Private tours require us to reserve one of our photography guides specifically for you, so advance booking gives you the best chance of securing your preferred date, starting time and tour duration.

Same-day bookings are possible subject to guide availability. For last-minute requests, WhatsApp us and we’ll let you know as quickly as possible whether we can accommodate you.

Yes.

You can add additional photographers to your private tour, and non-photographing partners, friends or family members are also very welcome.

Anyone receiving photography tuition — including someone photographing with an iPhone — is considered a photographing guest. Reduced rates are available for guests who are simply accompanying you.

Yes. A private tour can work particularly well for families because we can adjust the pace, route and photography tuition around your group.

If you’re travelling with younger children, contact us before booking and we’ll help you choose the most suitable tour duration.

If you need to cancel, the following cancellation charges apply:

More than 14 days before your tour: 25%
7–14 days before your tour: 50%
72 hours–7 days before your tour: 75%
Less than 72 hours before your tour or no-show: 100%

You may request one change of date with at least 72 hours’ notice, subject to guide availability.

If Amsterdam Photo Safari has to cancel your tour and we cannot arrange a suitable alternative, you may choose another date or receive a full refund.

We recommend appropriate travel insurance to cover illness, flight disruption and other unexpected changes to your travel plans.

Our small-group tours are already limited to a maximum of three photographers, but a private tour gives you something more: the guide and the experience are entirely yours.

You have greater freedom over the starting time, route, pace, locations and photographic tuition, allowing us to build the experience much more closely around what you want from your time in Amsterdam.
