Adam

Why do you enjoy guiding photography tours?
I love being able to quickly adapt to someone’s way of thinking and share new ideas that build on what they already enjoy. Seeing people pick up a new concept or skill is very gratifying. I also enjoy seeing things from a new perspective myself. Seeing the city from the perspectives of others is always inspiring.

How would you describe your photography background and style?
With a family history in journalism going back two generations, I look at photography as a documentary skill. It can be artistic too, but first of all it is a document of the time. This leads me to focus on events, authentic moments and accepting unpredictability as part of the scene.

Where is your favourite area of Amsterdam to photograph?
The Jordaan canals—a perfect blend of classic spots and modern streets nearby. I can find busy activity or silent spots within just a short walk from each other. My second favourite is De Wallen, for how beautifully the sun interacts with the architecture. It’s hard to beat anywhere else in the city.

What do you enjoy photographing most?
Street photography and events—looking for people in authentic moments and in settings that add something to the story.

How long have you been photographing?
25 years. I started with my parents’ old Canon AE-1, covering live band shows and exploring the medium.
